CONTEMPORARY CHRONOMETRY COMES ASHORE
THE TABLE-TOP COUNTERPART OF THE SEA-GOING LEGACY BLACK, THIS CHRONOMETER IS A THOROUGHLY MODERN TIMEPIECE. MATT- BLACK, WITH POLISHED AND DIAMOND-LIKE-CARBON STAINLESS STEEL, IT PROUDLY REVEALS ITS INTRICATE, HIGHLY ACCURATE MECHANISM.
The ocean’s loss is dry land’s gain, as the Thomas Mercer Brittanica Black brings precision and aesthetic air to the table. Based on an octagon theme, the design features a number 8 on the case, bezel and base. The skeletonised dial creates a ruggedly modern look.
Celebrating British skills in the fields of furniture design and clock making, the Brittanica Black combines the style and elegance of Jake Phipps with the precision, flawless manufacturing and exclusivity of Thomas Mercer. The collaboration has produced a contemporary, high-precision table chronometer with a matt-black and straight grained stainless steel case. It is also fitted with a set of extra- white crystals that provide an all-round view on the Brittanica Black’s exceptionally polished and bevelled movement.
The Brittanica is made of fully straight grained and DLC coated stainless steel..
The movement is bi-colour with a mix of Rhodium and All-Black electroplating..
The mechanism features a fusee-and-chain transmission system that acts in a similar way to a gearbox, constantly changing gears to provide a consistent level of torque and stabilising the movement’s frequency. Ticking at the rate of 14,400 vibrations per hour, the escapement is visible above the dial and works in close conjunction with a balance wheel of ovalising type that is unique to Thomas Mercer. The mechanism is located above the dial and visible through a set of extra-white crystals.Learn More

Width 150 mm
Depth 90 mm
The calibre TM0802 features a doubly useful start/stop system. On the one hand, it launches the spring detent which – unlike the majority of escapements – needs an initial jumpstart.
On the other, it blocks the balance wheel when setting the time, thus bringing it to a halt. It is then easier to set the time according to a master clock or official local time. When the hands are synchronised, the escapement can be restarted, letting the balance wheel resume its oscillation.
