The first Thomas Mercer calibre of the 21st century
This spring detent escapement, formed of a helical spring and ovalising balance, confirms Thomas Mercer’s commitment to combining relentless innovation with heritage and authenticity.
Aspiring to the theoretically perfect balance, the mechanism delivers the best results in terms of isochronism. The innovative ovalising balance features a bar which does not expand or contract with changes in temperature and which forces the balance into an oval shape. This, coupled with an uncut rim that makes centrifugal errors practically disappear, leads to a significant reduction in residual and ‘middle temperature’ errors. The bi-colour selective finish results in the chain and fusee drive shining together to magnify the attractive allure of the components.

“The Calibre TM0801 reinvents nautical timekeeping. By retaining the traditional elements of a pure chronometer, the movement represents the revival of an historic craft”.
